Top 1994 Songs – #7 – Kiss From A Rose

Batman Forever was all the rage in 1994, and its popularity helped elevate this next entry to this spot in the countdown.  While already a successful solo artist, this track helped make him a superstar.  It certainly didn’t hurt that this song would go on to win the coveted Song and Record of the Year Grammies and continue to be a staple in various radio/corporate/dj playlists.  Coming in at #7 is Kiss From a Rose by Seal.

Top 1994 Songs – #8 – On Bended Knee

This next 1994 song required repeated listenings before finally leaping over its fellow track in this countdown.  The boys from Philly are back with another top 10 smash, and it’s a very different vibe from the track that appeared two songs ago.  A great chorus and the fact that you hear this song more than the other one earns its place in this countdown at #8 – it is On Bended Knee by Boyz II Men.

Top 1984 Songs – #8 – We’re Not Gonna Take It

At this point for the countdown of the top songs released in 1984, the questions are going to be asked are what could possibly beat the previous song?  In this case, how about one of the most anti-authority, rebellious, protest rock songs of all time?  This song is a staple for everyone sick and tired of the status quo and willing to tell everyone that they are done taking it.  When you hear this song, you’ll know why it rose so high, high up to #8 – it is We’re Not Gonna Take It by Twisted Sister.

Top 1984 Songs – #9 – Careless Whisper

We now come to the first entry of the 1984 countdown that will probably be #1 on many others’ lists.  The fact it is only at #9 speaks volumes about the competition for this year.  Featuring one of the most recognizable saxophone riffs of all time, this song stops everyone in its tracks when it gets played, and it this band’s greatest ballad hands down.  Despite being Billboard’s #1 song for 1985, it was released in 1984, making it place in this competitive countdown year.  Coming in (controversially) at #9 is Careless Whisper by Wham!

Top 1994 Songs – #9 – Here Comes The Hotstepper

While last year the genre grabbed the top spot, our next song turning 30 years old this year is the highest charting hip-hop song of this countdown.  Interestingly it can almost be considered a one-hit-wonder since it was this artist’s biggest known hit, and it’s a common song at sports venues and clubs.  I remembered when this song was everywhere during the 90s and listening to it again, I can understand why.  This catchy tune will have you grooving.  At #9 is Here Come The Hotstepper by Ini Kamoze.

Top 1994 Songs – #10 – I’ll Make Love to You

We begin the second half of the top 20 songs turning 30 years old countdown with a familiar participant of the last few 90s countdowns.  This band was a juggernaut during this time and once again busted out some classic R&B tunes, including this one.  It’s still heard quite a bit today and it’s not the only one we will here from these Philly boys going forward.  Starting off at #10 is I’ll Make Love to You by Boyz II Men.
