As a means to get better and better at my craft, and to also supply you with music you haven’t heard yet, I decided to begin this little weekly (bi-weekly if I’m really busy) special I’m calling the Friday Factor. Over the course of the last decade and a half, I have come across and recorded boatloads of music with many different bands with whom I either shared the stage or performed. I’ve been cleaning out the CDs and DVDs that have been stored in my studio for some time, and I was amazed at the catalog of music that existed, most of which has not been heard publicly before.
I’m in the process of building a couple of other websites, one to showcase my studio and the other to showcase my original music and the music I have either recorded, mixed and/or mastered. These Factor Fridays will eventually make there way to the latter site, and will be cataloged by band too. The purpose of this project is to get better at what I do, and at the same time share with you the great music I’ve personally come across in my travels. How this will work is that each week I randomly pick a live show I have cataloged, determine if the recording quality is good enough to share, master it through my Pro Tools studio setup, and share the show. And to start it all off, we have a show from the band that recently went on hiatus – Lingo.
This show was recorded back in March 2010 when Lingo opened for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Original member Dylan Burke was still in the band, and drummer-in-transition Phil Washington was on the kit. ET, the amazing trumpet player for the DDBB, made a guest appearance that pushed us to the edge of what we could do with our instruments. The show was recorded using only the mics from my Zoom H4 recorder. It’s amazing to hear how the songs were back then, especially with how they would later evolve years down the road. So, enjoy the first Factor Friday show featuring Lingo live at the Cox Capitol Theatre in Macon, GA on March 26, 2010!
