Top 1993 Songs – #18 – If I Ever Lose My Faith in You

Next in my 1993 countdown is the second entry by the man known as Sting. While the previous song was a big hit, this song was the one that shot him back into the public consciousness.  He alerted the world that he was back and taking no prisoners as a songwriter. The song still gets plenty of airplay today, and it was a great return to form. At #18 is If I Lose My Faith in You by Sting.

Top 1993 Songs – #19 – Loser

Our next entry is a song that has been called the ultimate Gen-X/Grunge era song.  It has some of my favorite lyrics written by this great songwriter, and is still a song that is heard a lot today.  He would go on to have some really big songs (which may make a future countdown) and continues to have a huge career, but this is where it pretty much began.  Coming in at #19, it’s Loser by Beck.

Top 1993 Songs – #20 – Fields of Gold

The 1993 countdown turned out to be tough one, not because of the amount of great material to parse through, but the lack thereof that was released that year.  The previous year had a lot of songs that remained high on the charts into this year, but we start our current list with a great song that has actually continued to be a well-played song.  This artist’s album was another revelation of how good he was at songwriting and that he could still write beautiful ballads, like this one.  Beginning our Top 20 songs that turn 30 years old this year countdown …..more →

The Top 1993 Songs Countdown – An Intro

Once again, we are back for another countdown of songs turning 30 years old, this time for 2023.  Starting on April 1 I will begin to countdown a song each day until my birthday on April 20 when I announce the #1 song turning 30 years old.  See this previous post to determine the criteria of this list. So, as we wait for April 1st, here are the list of songs that were considered, but did not make the countdown, including five (marked by *) that almost made it: All for Love – Sting, Bryan Adams & Rod Stewart All Apologies – …..more →

Top 1992 Songs – #1 – End of the Road

We now come to the end of my countdown, and for the first time ever since I started this annual tradition, the #1 song is actually the #1 song by Billboard.  It’s hard not to put this song at the top, as it brings back lots of memories for those who grew up in the 90s and it’s considered to be one of the group’s best songs.  If last year’s goodbye hit didn’t do it before, this one certainly made them superstars.  And so, the #1 song release in 1992 and turning 30 years old is…End of the Road by …..more →

Top 1992 Songs – #2 – Baby Got Back

Rare has a hip hop song made as much of a pop culture impact as this next entry.  It is probably the best rap song released in 1992.  It’s beat and music are immediately known, as well as the spoken word intro, and it continues to hold its place in hip hop royality all these years later despite an amazing litany of other songs released since this one.  Our #2 entry in the top 20 30 year old songs is Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot.
