Top 1990 Songs – #18: Vision of Love

My wife loves this song more than I do, but I cannot deny how much the song sticks in your head after hearing it.  It’s also a very well-crafted song and was the song that jump-started Mrs. Carey’s career.  While other songs she did were better than this one in the years ahead, this is still a great r&b song that deserves it’s 18th place in this countdown: Vision of Love by Mariah Carey.

Top 1990 Songs – #19: Friends in Low Places

If there ever was a song that made country bars stand up and sing in unison, it was this one.  Arguably the song that shot Garth Brooks to superstardom, I didn’t realize this was a 1990 song until I started to do some research.  While to some of your surprise there were other songs that topped this one, it is an iconic song that bridged the gap between mainstream and country and it’s one of the most played and requested songs today.  Coming in at #19 is Friends in Low Places by Garth Brooks.

Top 1990 Songs – #20: Club at the End of the Street

Kicking off the countdown of the Top 30-Year-Old Songs Today is an honorable mention, given that I forgot about an equally good song off the same album that could have made 1989’s countdown last year.  I still love this tune, as it’s just a good old-fashioned pop r&b song with a good chorus and upbeat feel throughout.  I like the video too.  Coming in at #20 in the Top 1990 Songs countdown is Club at the End of the Street by Elton John.

Top 1989 Songs – #19: Miss You Much

Continuing our 30-year-old countdown is a song that wasn’t the best song on her Rhythm Nation album, but it was one of two songs released in 1989, and this one won out. It’s a fun upbeat tune that set the tone for what would come for this album in that year and it was a big one for Ms. Jackson. I also used to do the full dance routine to the video of this song. Coming in at #19 is Miss You Much by Janet Jackson.

Top 1989 Songs – #20: Pump Up The Jam

We are beginning my personal Top 20 list of songs that turn 30 years old today with a song that was my jam back in the day.  It’s the only real electronica song on this list and it’s, no pun intended, pumpin’. It’s still being played today as I just heard it along with today’s pop hits at a Harlem Wizards game with my kids.  In addition, a common theme you’ll see in this countdown is a song containing a meme that I often during daily life. Case in point, humming the two key lines of this tune at times.  …..more →
