Keith Emerson 1944-2016

I was deep into my Genesis phase as a kid when my mom came in one day and gave me a copy of Keyboard Magazine. I can’t remember the year of the edition, maybe 1990, but the cover story was about a keyboardist named Keith Emerson. Keith Emerson? The name did not ring a bell in my 14 year-old head, but I went ahead and read the article. I remember it being a very in depth article about this man and how he approached writing music, in particular a song called Eruption, the first of seven parts in his 20-minute …..more →

The Friday Factor – Dr. Louis Sullivan 11-2-2007

This week’s Friday Factor features one of many shows that I happened to record and now are making available for all to hear. This features a band I came across many times during my tenure with Ancient Harmony. Dr. Louis Sullivan, fronted by guitarist Chase Nichols who’s now a well-accomplished lighting engineer, was an electronica jam band during the early phase of the genre, and this show was recorded during Ancient Harmony’s small festival Woodystock back in 2007. Enjoy!

Sailing Schooner

It’s been a while (since May 2015), but I’m back in the saddle again with the Yacht Rock Schooner, starting with tonight’s show at 37 Main in Johns Creek (my first time playing this new, hip room).  It’s always a good time with these guys who never disappoint.  The following dates are now in the books: Friday 2/5 – 37 Main – Johns Creek, GA – Doors at 8pm Friday 2/12 – Park Tavern – Atlanta, GA – 8pm Saturday 2/27 – Private – Savannah, GA Friday 3/4 – Private – Buckhead, GA Friday 3/11 – Dixie Tavern – Marietta, …..more →

The Friday Factor – Lingo – 5/29/2010

Every band has those certain gigs they remember, from the songs they played, to the vibe prior to the show, to the festivities afterward. This show had all three! We were in the midst of a long week and a half tour of the Bayou, and the meat & potatoes of this trip was a show at Tipitina’s. We were opening for Billy Iuso and Rebirth Brass Band, of whom this show was their 27th anniversary celebration. So, we were just thankful for the opportunity to play this stage and to open for a legendary band like Rebirth. I had …..more →

The Friday Factor – Lingo – 12/17/2010

Lingo embarked on a four-day tour of Florida to promote the band’s newest EP Someday, which we had officially released the week prior. The second show of that run was at a place called Hooligans, opening for Aquaphonics, and it turned out to be one of the band’s best shows of 2010.  We were fortunate to have also gotten video footage of that performance from our bud Adam Firtel, which can be seen here and here and here.  A couple tracks from this show made their way onto the band’s first podcast, too.  It’s kind of amazing to hear the early arrangements …..more →

The Friday Factor – Tommy Talton Duo – 3/5/2010

This week’s Factor Friday takes a different turn from the previous week.  We go from a theatre rock show in the heart of Macon, to an upscale restaurant acoustic show in Acworth, GA.  This was one of the first gigs I did with Tommy Talton as a duo, and we covered a lot of musical territory over the course of 3 sets of music.  Along with his original work and some good story telling in between songs, we dove into the catalog and pulled out tunes from Van Morrison, Buddy Holly, Ry Cooder and James Taylor just to name a …..more →
